Gujarati Saree

Variations for wearing a sari Gujurati Style (from Gujarat state)

Step 1 - Remains the same as the traditional style
Step 2 – Measuring the pallav

Pleat the short end of the pallav, hold the pleats in line and bring the sari under your left arm and then up and over your right shoulder. Let the pallav fall from your right shoulder down toward your left hip. Tie an overhand knot in the top corner of the pallav. Bring that corner under your left arm and tuck the knot into the back of your sari at the waist. Pin the sari at the right shoulder.

Step 3 – Making the Pleats
This step remains the same, but tuck the long end of the pallav under your left arm so that you can see what you are doing while you make the pleats.

Make 7 or 8 pleats, leaving enough slack so that it drapes behind you in a graceful loop before going up and over your shoulder.

Step 4 and 5 – the final arrangements
As you have already pleated your pallav neatly and pinned, you need to let it once again fall down across you in front. This will display your pallav very nicely, especially if the pallav has a striking pattern. The edge of the sari should go from your shoulder, over the chest and directly under the left arm. To keep this part snug, adjust the knot at the back accordingly.

Add your bindi and jewellery and you will look like a true Gujarati lady!
