World Sangam Day
World Sangam Day
World Sangam Day is celebrated every year on Sangam’s birthday, October 16th. It promotes knowledge of Sangam across the globe, and also raises money for Sangam as a much-needed and much-appreciated birthday gift!
There are many Girl Guides, Girl Scouts, and leaders around the world who have never heard of Sangam. Some may have heard that Sangam is the Indian World Centre, but don’t know much more. With the World Sangam Day Activities Pack and the other information in the World Sangam Day resources we hope to spread the word about Sangam across the globe!
Using these resources, you can serve as a Sangam ambassador, sparking the interest of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in visiting Sangam as event participants or independent guests. Your support encourages adult members, particularly young women, to apply to be a Sangam Volunteer or a Tare with Sangam’s Community Programme, and your efforts promote an understanding and appreciation of Indian culture.
You might run a Sangam night with your unit or troop, organize a World Sangam Day celebration for your entire Region, or enjoy a quiet Indian dinner with some Girl Guiding or Girl Scouting friends. The programme is incredibly flexible, and we hope that whatever you choose to do to celebrate World Sangam Day, you have a wonderful time!
Sangam relies on donations from our supporters to constantly improve and maintain facilities, and to offer scholarships and travel grants to girls and young women who could not otherwise afford to visit Sangam. Accordingly, we hope that many people will also use World Sangam Day as an opportunity to fundraise for Sangam—every little bit counts! If every Girl Guide and Girl Scout worldwide raised just 10 cents for Sangam, we would raise 1 million dollars…what an amazing result that would be!
So join in Sangam’s birthday celebrations, share the Sangam Spirit, and start planning your next trip to Sangam World Centre!
