Melissa (Canada) – Short Term Autumn Sangam Volunteer
Hi! I'm Melissa and I am from Metcalfe, Ontario in Canada.
Curious about the meetings that my friends attended and the badges that they earned, I joined guiding as a Brownie at age seven. Since then, I've been a Spark, Guide and Pathfinder leader. I'm currently a leader with a busy Brownie Unit that loves skating, camping and selling Girl Guide cookies. I'm also a member of the editorial committee of Girl Guides of Canada's national magazine, Canadian Guider, and I enjoy writing for the Girl Guides of Canada blog.
At home, I've worked at the Canadian parliament in a number of roles and I have degrees in political science and education. While this is my first trip to Sangam, I visited Our Chalet in 2011 as a participant in WAGGGS' Young Women's World Forum. Over the next few months, I'm looking forward to contributing to the work of Sangam, learning about India and challenging myself in a cross-cultural environment.

Kara (Canada) - Long Term Monsoon Sangam Volunteer
Namaste, my name is Kara and I grew up in Alberta, Canada. Currently, I am on a gap year from my studies of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria.
I began my Guiding journey at the age of 6 years old; from there it has provided me many amazing opportunities and taught me numerous lessons. One of my most memorable Guiding experiences was traveling to the U.K and Pax Lodge when I was a pathfinder. The trip was my doorway to world travels and overseas opportunities. Most recently, I helped a Pippin and Brownie group in Riverton, New Zealand.
As a Sangam Volunteer, I look forward to expanding my skills and knowledge; growing as an individual; and most of all, meeting guests from all over the world! When I return home, I hope to apply my Sangam experience to my studies, future career, and educating Guides about WAGGGS.
Amy (UK) - Long Term Monsoon Sangam Volunteer
I am Amy from Cambridge, England. I have been in guiding since the age 6 which has given me the opportunity to grow, learn and share my experiences. I run a Brownie unit along with two other leaders, close to where I live which I absolutely love!
Guiding has many opportunities to experience overseas trips, fortunately I have been very lucky to have participated at 4 of 5 WAGGGS World Centres!
I have been to Sangam on several occassions as an event participant and also taken part in the Community Programme as a Tare here at Sangam in 2011, being part of these ace experiences in Guiding has made me want to return as a Sangam Volunteer - each experience holds a different journey!
From left to right; Marel, Amy, Kara, Teresa and Nicole.
Kalika (USA) - Community Relations Intern
Hello! I am Kalika, your current Community Relations Intern! I am twenty four years old and have degrees in two things that will probably never make me much money: art and philosophy. I grew up in the state of Colorado in the good ol’ US of A and enjoy doing things that the stereotypically sporty people of Colorado like doing such as hiking big mountains and snowboarding down them. I have been a guide since I was five and stuck with despite having to sell cookies outside in the freezing snow! For the past two years I was in Cameroon, West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching computer and art classes at the primary and secondary school levels. In my spare time I did sensitization seminars and camps for women’s empowerment, HIV/AIDS and nutrition—all MDGs that helped prepare me to provide support to the projects our awesome Tare work on!
Hey, I'm Sonu the Cat, I've been at Sangam since I was born in June 2011. You'll be able to recognise me because of my bushy tail from where my mum (Trevor) mated with a squirrel.
I live in the Guide House with the WCM, but I pretty much own the place, and I'm very comfortable breaking into dorms through the velcro mosquito netting. I get locked away when people come who have allergies, because apparently they don't like ahring my fur. I also have to wear this silly bell because I like to eat geckos too much and once I ate too many and had to go to the vet and I don't like the vet at all. I'm looking forward to curling up next to you when you come to Sangam so please come soon!!! P.S. I'm also on Facebook if you'd like to be my friend I would love that! Meow!
