Volunteer opportunities
Sangam offers you two types of volunteer opportunities.
Sangam Volunteers
As a Sangam volunteer, you can lead the events of Sangam, be actively involved in shaping the life of the centre, learn about India, work with our community partner organizations, develop leadership skills including teamwork, public speaking, communication, and organization. You will also be challenged to understand cultural differences and work in a multi-cultural environment.
You must be at least 21 years old to be a Sangam volunteer.
We have two terms:
- Monsoon (end of May - September): you can join us for a busy, dynamic monsoon period with lots going on, many visitors, fun community action projects, and the Ganesh festival. Throughout this term you can improve you public speaking, facilitation and organization skills while serving with an international team.
- Winter (September - March): in this season you will develop Sangam's programme resources, as well as run events and lead community action projects as you experience the atmosphere of Diwali, Holi and other festivals. You will have the opportunity to take initiative on longer term development of programme resources.
Application deadline is 31 December 2009 for next year's terms.
We provide a small stipend during your stay and some contribution to your travel expenses.
Sangam’s Community Volunteer Programme.
As a community volunteer, you work four days a week at one of Sangam's community partner organizations, mostly teaching English, crafts, games and songs to children, making a difference in the lives of the communities where they are from. You will spend one weekday learning about the local language and culture, preparing for your work at the organizations and taking part in the busy life of Sangam. Your weekends are off, this is an opportunity for you to enjoy some time on your own or discover sites in the surrounding area and take some rest from work.
There is a fee for this programme and you have to be at least 18 years old to apply.
We have two terms each year:
January - March
September - November
Application deadline is 15 April each year
You can find more volunteering opportunities at the other world centres of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts at there respective websites.
