Our Community Programme is open to all however, you must be 18 or older, have basic conversational English, and demonstrate maturity, reliability, independence, self-motivation, flexibility, adaptability, commitment to service and learning, and openness to other cultures.

To apply, you must fill out the application form available to download [top right of this page], and send it via email to crm@sangamworldcentre.org. Applications and references are accepted all year but have the following due dates below.

The Community Programme is coordinated by the Community Relations Manager, Minakshi Jadhav, and the Community Relations Intern. Minakshi has been working at Sangam since 1994; the Community Relations Intern is a volunteer position appointed by Sangam World Centre. We want as many people as possible to participate in this amazing programme. We know that our 4 week schedules don't always match with each individual that is interested. Email crm@sangamworldcentre.org with your available dates for our 4 week Programme. We'll do our best to work with your schedule!


 

Fees

The Programme fee includes:

  • Twin room or shared dorm room
  • 3 meals daily if eaten at Sangam or if packed lunch is taken to site
  • Safe drinking water
  • Laundry facilities
  • 2 uniform punjabi suits (to be returned at the end of the Programme)
  • A Sangam t-shirt
  • Participation in a Sangam event (for 12 week Tare)
  • Community Programme orientation
  • Transportation to and from placement site
  • Weekly language lessons (for 12 week Tare)
  • Cultural learning and debriefing
  • Participation in other Sangam programme activities during non-work hours, if desired
  • Mediation with Community Partners, if needed
  • Support of experienced staff at a well-established World Centre
  • Re-entry orientation at the end of your stay
  • Transportation to and from Mumbai Airport

The programme fee does not include:

  • Passport and visa fees
  • Airfare
  • Spending money
  • Travel insurance
  • Medical insurance and treatment
  • Immunizations
  • Medicine (i.e. anti-malarials)
  • Etc.

A non-refundable deposit of 10% is required at the time of acceptance into the Programme.  The remainder of the fee is due 1 month prior to the start of the Programme.


 

Financial Assistance and Scholarships

Sangam offers financial assistance to suitable applicants. Travel grants and scholarships, including full funding of the Community Programme, are available thanks to the UPS Foundation and Sangam’s individual donors. 

To apply for a scholarship, you should indicate on your Community Programme application that you would like to be considered, and indicate why you will require financial assistance to participate in the Programme. Sangam may contact your Member Organization or WAGGGS Regional Director for further details.

Scholarship recipients are responsible for promoting the Community Programme and Sangam by preparing and giving presentations when they return home. For more information, please contact Minakshi Jadhav, Community Relations Manager, at crm@sangamworldcentre.org.
