Events
In Sanskrit, the word "Sangam" describes a place where three rivers meet. It also means, "coming together" and here at Sangam Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from many nations can come together to experience international living at its best and forge lasting friendships.
Events are scheduled throughout the season, which starts in June and runs until the following March. Event themes vary but all emphasise cultural sharing, common Guiding/Girl Scouting links and the rich cultural heritage of India which you would never discover as a regular tourist.
Irrespective of age, interest or background, there will be an event theme to interest you at Sangam. Topics offered range from children’s rights and women’s issues to Bollywood movies and photography! Theme based activities are included to provide an introduction to the topic and examine different aspects of it. Many events include a community action project and visits to see the work of local social organizations.
In addition, all sessions include an introduction to Indian society, visits to local bazaars, temples and markets, time for sari shopping, and options to explore the bustling, modern city of Pune. Interaction with members of the local community along with guests and staff from around the world is always a highlight. Events begin at 8:00 am on the first day of the scheduled date and finish by 2 pm on the last day. The length of programmes ranges from 6 to 12 days. Please ensure to plan to stay for the entire length of the programme in order to obtain the most enjoyment and benefit from your experience. Activities are scheduled throughout the day both on site and out and about in the city of Pune. Breaks for meals and free time are offered and group leaders can relax here, safe in the knowledge that Sangam staff will plan and take care of everything. View a sample event schedule.
Major preparations for events are not usually required however we will advise you if anything is needed (i.e. preparation for community project, materials etc.). Information is sent to you by the Programme Team at 9 and 3 months before your event, outlining what plans are underway and what you can expect on arrival.
The majority of events are appropriate for individuals, families or groups to attend and bookings can be made directly to the centre by contacting info@sangamworldcentre.org.
