Maher

Meaning “Mother’s Home” in the local language of Marathi, Maher provides a home and community for women and children in distress. The current Director is Sister Lucy Kurien. She has been working at Maher since 1997.

Maher’s projects include the sheltering and rehabilitation of distressed women and children, organizing self-help groups, alcohol rehabilitation, family counseling, legal assistance, preschools and kindergartens, youth groups, and non-formal education programs in villages including literacy, rights, vocational training, hobbies, handicrafts, the eradication of superstition & increasing sanitation.
