The YWCA in Pune is part of the international YWCA’s. The YWCA unites and speaks for over 25 million women and works in 91 countries worldwide. The YWCA was founded in 1878 in Pune by Miss Mary Vitters.
The YWCA in Pune has the following facilities:
A hostel for Young Women: which includes guest rooms for transit visitors and a cafeteria
Crisis Cell for women in distress: a temporary shelter for women, which provides medical help, counseling & legal aid.
Two Community Development Projects in slum areas in Pune: one is in Indiranagar the community beside Sangam which runs various classes for women (i.e. nursing, tailoring) and a balwadi (preschool) for children.
The YWCA runs a project in Indiranagar, the neighbourhood next to Sangam. It includes job training for women & tutoring for children.
